IMPORTANT UPDATE – Honor Flight Network, our national organization, has postponed all trips through June 30, 2021 in response to COVID-19.
This page is currently under construction.
The National Honor Flight program began in 2005 and Wikipedia has a great explanation of the program.
Honor Flight of Portland currently provides trips for veterans from Clackamas, Clatsop, Columbia, Hood River, Marion, Multnomah, Polk, Tillamook, Wasco, Washington, and Yamhill counties. Visit the national Honor Flight Network for information on Honor Flight programs in other areas.
Each Honor Flight of Portland trip is unique, but follow a basic pattern. Veterans and Guardians gather in Portland near the airport the night before the trip begins for an opening dinner and opportunity to meet each other and get last minute trip information.
The first day begins early with a bus ride to PDX and a flight to Washington DC, a bus ride to the hotel and dinner.
The next couple days include visits to the war memorials and other other memorials in the National Mall and around the DC area; a visit to Congress to meet local legislators; an participating in a wreath ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider in Arlington National Cemetary.
Then it’s another early bus ride to the airport and flight back to Portland for a hero’s welcome and reunion with family.
This is truly a once in a lifetime experience!
